Melissa Lucio, a Texas mother sentenced to death for the 2007 murder of her two-year-old daughter, was granted a stay of execution just 48 hours before her execution due to new found evidence, according to The Guardian.Â
Lucio's legal team provided new information in a Habeas petition that alleged the death of her toddler daughter never occurred. According to medical and eyewitness reports, Mariah, the toddler died after accidentally falling down a steep flight of stairs at Lucioâs home.Â
Lucio's family is overjoyed that her execution has been delayed, and her son says that "prayers have been heard." Â
Melissa Lucio's case made national headlines and drew a lot of attention, resulting in a Hulu documentary, The State of Texas vs. Melissa, which you can watch here.Â
